How We Govern Remote Clinical Pharmacy Services
Remote Clinical Providers is built around safe, documented and auditable clinical delivery. This page sets out our compliance position, governance framework and how we support NHS due diligence.
Compliance Position
Our Regulatory & Compliance Credentials
We maintain the compliance standards expected of a clinical service provider working with NHS primary care.
NHS DSP Toolkit Compliant
Our service is built in line with the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit. We take our data security obligations seriously and handle all patient-adjacent data in accordance with NHS information governance standards.
GDPR Compliant
We are fully compliant with the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. Data handling procedures are documented and reviewed regularly. Data processing agreements are available to commissioners on request.
Professionally Indemnified
All clinical work delivered through Remote Clinical Providers is covered by professional indemnity insurance. Details of our indemnity cover are available to NHS commissioners and procurement teams on request.
GPhC-Registered Clinical Staff
Every clinical pharmacist and pharmacy technician working through our service holds active, verified GPhC registration. Registration is checked against the public GPhC register before deployment and monitored throughout the engagement.
ICO Registered
Remote Clinical Providers Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under the UK data protection fee. Our registration reference is available to commissioners and procurement teams on request.
Clinical Governance Framework
Before Any Pharmacist Is Deployed
We do not deploy pharmacists into workflows that have not been properly agreed, documented and tested. Every engagement goes through a structured governance setup before clinical work begins.
This means GP practices and PCNs can evidence appropriate oversight of remote clinical activity — a requirement for safe and auditable delegation of medicines-related tasks.
Governance setup checklist
- Written governance agreement signed with the practice or PCN before work begins
- Escalation routes agreed, documented and communicated to both teams
- Clinical system access configured, tested and confirmed
- Standard Operating Procedures reviewed and practice-approved
- Role boundaries confirmed in writing — what the pharmacist will and will not action
- Named clinical supervisor or GP lead identified for escalation
Information Governance
Patient Data & Information Governance
Our remote pharmacists access patient records within the practice clinical system (EMIS or SystmOne) only as required for the agreed clinical task. We do not hold, extract or store identifiable patient data outside of the clinical system.
Our data handling is aligned to the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit and compliant with the UK General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018. All access to clinical systems is subject to the governance agreement in place with the practice or PCN.
A full data processing agreement is available to NHS commissioners and procurement teams on request. Please contact us to obtain a copy.
